After Logan, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is gearing up to roll out its multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Ingenio by March 2008. The company is investing around Rs 550 crore in the project.M&M has built a body shop for Ingenio adjacent to its Nashik facility, and the unit is nearing completion. The Ingenio will share the stamping division and the paint shop of the Scorpio plant. Initially, the capacity of the Ingenio plant will be 50,000 units per annum, sources said.The company is planning to start trial production by the end of December, and the Ingenio plant is expected to start commercial operations by March 2008. Ingenio will have both petrol and disel versions, sources close to the development told Business Standard.The company had earlier planned Ingenio as a replacement for its utility vehicle Bolero. Since Bolero is getting a good response from consumers, the company has decided to continue with the product.M&M had singed an MoU with the government of Maharashtra in August 2006 to set up a manufacturing facility for its new multipurpose vehicle at Nashik. Accordingly, the company has been granted waiver from stamp duty, power purchase duty, octroi and other local taxes.
