Plans to double plants' manufacturing capacity.

Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is planning to double the capacity of its engine manufacturing facility at Igatpuri, in Nashik district, in the next couple of years. The company will invest Rs 200 crore for the expansion.

M&M manufactures engines for its utility vehicles "" Scorpio and Bolero "" at its Igatpuri facility, around 40 km away from Nashik. It also caters to the market demands.

Speaking to Business Standard, a top official from M&M?s automotive sector said, "To meet the future demands, we will almost double the manufacturing capacity of our Igatpuri plant. Currently, the manufacturing capacity of Igatpuri plant is 400 engines per day, which will be increased to 800 engines a day at an investment of Rs 200 crore in the next one or two years."

With an aim to meet all upcoming norms like Euro IV and to cater to vehicle requirements for at least a decade ahead, M&M's Igatpuri plant had recently developed the high-speed, direct injection 'Eagle engine'.

It is a 2.2-litre, 4-valve engine, with a double over head cam (DOHC), a turbocharger and a common rail engine.
