Macmillan unveils book on real life heroes

Macmillan India Limited today unveiled the first book under the series 'Knock Out Challenges'. The book profiles people who have overcome hardships and achieved success. Noted animal rights activist and Blue Cross of Hyderabad founder Amala Akkineni released the book here.
 
Speaking about the book, Mohankrishnan, vice-president (south) of Macmillan India, said: "Knock Out Challenges is a tribute to the undying spirit of such unsung heroes, who have swum against the tide to emerge winners. This book is an initiative to recognise and create awareness of such unsung heroes whose actions could inspire others to scale new heights in their lives."
 
Knock Out Challenges is a collection of stories based on research conducted by Macmillan India as well as accounts sent in by courageous people from across the country recounting their experiences.
 
"A panel of judges selected such stories. This book profiles people of stature like astronaut Kalpana Chawla, tabla maestro Allarakha, super cop Kiran Bedi, Amul man Verghese Kurien, film director Mahesh Bhatt, politician Shrikant Jichkar, dancer-turned-actress Sudha Chandran, actor Manoj Bajpai etc besides computer wiz Krishnakant Mane, educationalist Bobby and IAS officer Nitin Jawale. The regular colour paperback edition is priced at Rs 180," he said.
 
On the occasion of the book release, Macmillan felicitated Sridevi, a national-level handball player who captained the Andhra Pradesh team and played in the National Games, 1999. She is working as a domestic help to supplement her father's meagre income to support her family.
