The samples of Maggi and 'masala' got tested by Haryana Food and Drugs Administration Department have revealed that the added MSG is negative and had lead within the prescribed limits.
While giving this information today, S Narayanan, Director General, National Health Mission said that the Department had collected 134 samples of Maggi and “masala” from all districts in the state.
The Maggi samples were tested keeping in view two aspects, so that harmful chemical substances, if any, mixed in Maggi could be detected. It is mandatory to mention the quantity of MSG added in any eatable product. But none of the packets had any mention of quantity of MSG added to it.

Narayanan said that besides this, to check the level of lead in Maggi, its samples were sent to the laboratory at PGIMER, Chandigarh as there is no such facility or laboratory in Haryana to test it. He said that in test reports the quantity of lead was found within prescribed limits.
He said that the Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij said that the report of samples of Maggi and “masala” has been received. In view of the health of people, if required, the samples would again be sent for testing at any other laboratory.
Haryana was among eight states where the sales of Maggi were not banned but the samples were sent for test. But the sales sales were reported effected following the controversy of food safety norms.
