Mahaveer group expands product base

Chennai-based Mahaveer group plans to expand its product base by concentrating on cabling and switchgear equipment in the next four months.
 
On the sidelines of opening its first Philips lighting, electrical cable and accessories showroom, J S Shyaam,one of the managing partners of Mahaveer group, mentioned about the group's expansion plans.
 
J Sumermal, chairman, Mahaveer group, said that the new facility has storage and delivery facility of Philips lighting products and about Rs 1.2 crore has been invested to set up.
 
Mahaveer Electric Agencies, with a network of over 750 dealers in all the southern states, caters to the electrical needs of over 230 industrial houses like TVS group of companies, Murugappa group of companies, Integral Coach Factory, Taj group of hotels, Larsen & Toubro limited and Hindustan Motors limited.The group has diversified its operations at its Kilpauk branch by establishing a tie-up with Sejal glasses, a Mumbai-based architectural glass processor.
 
The group's turnover is Rs 21.46 crore in 2004-05 and plans to increase its turnover to Rs 34.8 crore during the current financial year.
 
The showroom will also house other brands such as Leon modular switches, Finolex cables, Lisha switches and accessories and Avonplast pipes. The administrative cum warehouse complex which includes a state-of-the-art cable handling facility that will handle over 5,000 metres per day.
 
"With this new facility, we expect our load handling capacity to go up by four times. At present, we are in a 5,000 sq ft building and handle cables up to 900 metres per day," said Shyaam.
 
Mahaveer group also forays into the medical field with the setting up of a 25-bedded MOTS hospital (Mahaveer Orthopedics Trauma and Sports Medicine Centre) at Kilpauk.
 
The hospital will be specialising in orthopaedic and sports medicine and will be headed by S Ram. MOTS has a tie-up with Space Hospitals and will become fully operational by mid-September, said Ram.
