Mahindra Intertrade in JV to set up Rs 150 crore steel service plant near Pune

Plant to have annual processing capacity of 130,000 tonne

Identifying the potential for automotive steel demand in the domestic market and noting the hurdles auto companies face in procuring customised products, Mahindra Intertrade is coming up with a 130,000-tonne-capacity steel service centre at Chakan, near Pune.

“The Rs 150-crore JV (joint venture) plant is not going to be just Mahindra-centric and in fact will cater to auto companies in the vicinity,” Harsh Kumar, managing director, Mahindra Intertrade told Business Standard.

The unlisted Mahindra Intertrade is a part of the $16.2-billion Mahindra Group. Auto companies such as General Motors, Tata Motors, and Volkswagen apart from Mahindra & Mahindra are located in the Chakan area.

“This plant will be an independent automated facility and will offer end-to-end solution to the client,” Kumar added.
