Mahindra launches MPOWER to train young transport entrepreneurs at IIM-A

Company terms it a step to encourage youth transporter to take on their family business

The Mahindra Group today announced the launch of a management development programme for young transport entrepreneurs at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). The programme titled MPOWER is a 14 day course designed and to be run by IIM-Ahmedabad, as a knowledge partner. Under this initiative 30 young transport entrepreneurs would attend the programme.

According to the company release, this is a step by the company to encourage the youth transporter to take on their family business. Nalin Mehta, CEO & Managing Director, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Limited said, “At Mahindra, we call it a RISE initiative for Youth Transport Entrepreneurs, with the main objective of helping to professionalize the Indian Trucking Industry through Management Development Initiatives for the next generation of entrepreneurs."

For MPOWER, the entire course content was developed ground-up through participation of young transporters who shared their concerns and spelled out their knowledge needs for running their existing business through their own vision for the future.

Each of the 30 entrepreneurs has been chosen on the basis of their experience in the industry. Entrepreneurs are required to be between 21 to 40 years of age and should have been part of the transport industry for at least two years. They are also needed to be college graduates, to be eligible for the programme.

Every candidate has to pay Rs 45,500 (plus service tax of 12.36%) for boarding at lodging expenses at IIM Ahmedabad for the course. The fees for the course, study materials, field visits and workshops are completely borne by Mahindra.
 
The MPOWER program is a 14 day course, which started on 23 January, 2013 and will conclude on 5 February, 2013 and will have a case-based approach. It will also include field visits, external workshops and guest lectures by industry experts to provide better insight of the domain development and current trend for this programme.
