Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M), the country’s largest utility vehicle maker, today launched nationally Rexton RX6, a five-speed manual transmission, high-end sports utility vehicle (HSUV) from its Korean subsidiary SsangYong’s stable.

“The RX6 is aimed at filling the gap between Rexton’s previous variants RX5 (manual transmission, Rs 19 lakh) and RX7 (automatic transmission, Rs 21.8 lakh). The new model was launched after receiving customers’ feedback on the need for high-end and luxurious features in a manual transmission model,” Arun Malhotra, chief sales and customer care officer (automotive division), M&M, told mediapersons here.

Being positioned as a premium luxury vehicle in the highly-competitive HSUV segment, which has 15 players including Hyundai’s Santa Fe (Rs 25.52 lakh), Mitsubishi’s Pajero Sport (Rs 23.82 lakh) and Ford’s Endeavour (Rs 20.2 lakh), with Toyota commanding an over 60 per cent of the segment with its Fortuner, the Rexton RX6 is priced at Rs 20.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Hyderabad).

“We see Rexton RX6 as a product that is at the top of our utility vehicle (UV) portfolio. More than volumes, it reinforces our effort of launching UVs at every point – right from the entry level to the premium luxury level,” Malhotra said, adding the HSUV segment had seen sales of around 2,000 vehicles a month in India during the last financial year.
