Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) today said it would invest over Rs 100 crore to raise production at its Nashik plant, which includes ramping up capacity of Scorpio and putting a line for the no-frills sedan Logan."We will be raising the capacity from 330 units a day to 570 units, and expect this to be completed in the next 12-18 months," Pawan Goenka, president (automotive sector) of M&M, said today after launching an all-new Scorpio.The company has incorporated as many as 43 improvements in the new Scorpio. Apart from the Scorpio, which sports a common rail diesel engine, M&M also manufactures the utility vehicle Bolero at Nashik. The company plans to launch the Logan for which it formed a 51:49 joint venture with Renault last year by 2007.Speaking about the new Scorpio, Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman andmanaging director of M&M, said the company had invested around Rs 30 crore on the project, which took about 18 months. The company had originally invested around Rs 600 crore for the development of the vehicle, which hit the markets in June 2002.The company has made changes to the interiors and exteriors of the Scorpio, which now comes with a brand new suspension."We can review the price after around 30-45 days," Mahindra said. The Scorpio is currently available between Rs 7.69 lakh and Rs 8.8 lakh.
