Ahmedabad-based Mamata Energy, part of the Mamata Group, launched country's first Solar Thermal Air Conditioning System (STACS) in the city today. |
The system installed at its facility in Kalol will be formally launched by Narendra Modi, state chief minister on April 21. It covers a carpet area of more than 2500 sq ft that would require 25 TR of conventional air conditioning. |
The company uses high efficient heat pipe evacuated tubes, currently being imported from its Beijing-based strategic partner "" Sunda while, strategic and Vapor Absorption Machine from Thermax. It plans to make evacuated tubes soon. |
Targeting industries, it plans to sell six to ten systems this year. It wil also look at the overseas market. The cost of these system is about Rs 1.5 lakh per tonne which the company plans to scale down to below a lakh and operates ten hours a day. |
"We are in a process of tie-up with four overseas companies," Manish Patel managing director of the company told Business Standard. |
"We have pay back periods under five years and the operating life of these system is at least 20 years. The maintenance is zero percent and industries will hugely benefit from the depreciation of renewable energy," he added. |
About 80 per cent of the energy from the sun is thermal and only 20 per cent is light. The efficiency of the heat pipe evacuated pipe solar collectors in solar energy utilisation is 56 percent against photovoltaic modules which is three per cent, he added. |
"Our goal is to offer affordable solar energy based products and solutions in India, with a focus on thermal energy, by working with international experts in this field," he added. |
The STACS has many other important applications like solar hot air drying system that can maintain temperatures from 400 C to 1000 C, illuminated very low power solar signboards and hot water system. |
The company has also developed solar refrigerator with technology from Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute. |
