Manipal Hospitals to invest Rs 200 cr for expansion

Manipal Hospitals today said it will invest Rs 200 crore in the next three years to double its capacity to 8,000 beds.

The healthcare chain predominantly strong in South India said it is looking to acquire smaller independent hospitals to expand in West and East India.

"We are planning to double our bed capacity in the next three years to 8,000 beds from the current 4,000. We will be investing Rs 200 crore for this purpose," Manipal Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Rajen Padukone told PTI.
    
The company currently has 14 hospitals, which are into both commercial and medical colleges.
 
Out of the current 4,000 beds, 1,500 beds are in the commercial wing and the rest in the medical education wing.
   
"New beds will be added in our existing hospitals for increasing our capacity.

We may also set up new hospitals," Padukone said.
    
Besides, Manipal Hospitals is also scouting to acquire smaller independent hospitals to expand into new locations in India.
    
"We are primarily South India-based but now we are looking for acquisitions in West and East India to expand out business," he said without giving any details.
    
When asked about revenue targets, he said the company is targetting to cross Rs 1,000-mark in the next three years from the current Rs 600 crore.
