SpiceJet promoter Kalanithi Maran has been allocated about 42 million shares in the airline at Rs 23.18 per share, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Last Maran Maran pumped in about Rs 100 crore in the airline for an additional 5% stake in the airline. With this equity infusion Maran's stake in the airline is now 48.9%.
SpiceJet said the shares had been allotted on a preferential basis pursuant to the shareholders approval. This is the second round of equity infusion by Marans in five months. Last month Spicejet chief executive officer Neil Mills had said the airline was looking at other options to raise capital including debt but no decision had been taken.
The equity infusion came in backdrop of auditors concerns and its deteriorating net worth following losses. However, SpiceJet denied erosion of net worth.
