Marg Limited, a Chennai-based diversified infrastructure development company, is planning to develop four million sft of knowledge hub at Marg Swarnabhoomi, a special economic zone promoted by it near Chennai.
Speaking to reporters, GRK Reddy, chairman and managing director, Marg Ltd, said of the four million sft, 2.45 million sft would be mainly for research and development for IT, automotive, pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Marg on Monday entered into a tie up with US-based Virginia Tech to establish a university — Virginia Tech Marg Swarnabhoomi — in the SEZ.
“We expect the knowledge hub to attract investment worth Rs 1,000 crore,” said Reddy. The hub already has a school, set up by Bala Vidya Mandir.
The SEZ will also have an academy for music, which is expected to start in July this year. It would offer a range of courses including PG, UG and doctoral programmes.
The university would offer advanced education and research in the fields of nanoscale science and engineering, nano biotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, automotive engineering. The campus will be managed and operated by a joint trust. Marg proposes to develop the required infrastructure for the trust.
