In India, a greater market share and a full range of services are Omnicom's areas of focus. Michael Birkin, CEO - Asia Pacific, Omnicom, said, "We want to ensure that we provide the full range of our services in the market to see to it that we can handle both local and MNC clients."

The route to expansion of these services, Birkin said, is through acquisitions of companies in the field of public relations, interactive communications and customer relationship management, which are the cornerstones of Omnicom advertising.

"We basically need to broaden our global brand positioning in India across all four activities. This is going to be done by a mixture of start-ups within our exisiting brands and certain key acquisitions over the next 12-24 months," Birkin added.

The newly-appointed Asia Pacific CEO is certain that within the next two years there will be more brands within the Omnicom stable in India.

The company is in the last stages of talks with two players, which, according to sources, will culminate in the near future.

The group is also looking at an Asian-region focus to leverage its the strength of its network in this region as well as to ensure that Omnicom develops and aligns its capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.
