Andhra non-resident Indians top in gifting cars.

Maruti Suzuki's exclusive scheme for Indians residing overseas, 'Dil Se', is finally finding favour with NRIs six months after it was launched.

The scheme intended to help NRIs, especially young professionals, gift a car to their loved ones back home found few takers initially.

Now, it has come out of its sluggishness and is evolving as a new revenue generating source for the company.

"Six months back not many people were familiar with the concept of gifting a car living in another country but of late the number of enquiries from all parts of the world have soared. Not less than six cars are being booked by NRIs everyday, translating into monthly sales of at least 150 cars," I V Rao, chief general manager, engineering division, Maruti Udyog, told Business Standard.

Interestingly, while bookings are coming in for almost all the states, majority of them has come from Andhra Pradesh, which has a share of almost 55-60 per cent in the NRI sales scheme.

Also, the Maruti Swift, the company's hatchback model with 1298cc engine capacity and multipoint injection fuel distribution, has been the most preffered model for NRIs followed by the Wagon R. The company's latest offering, Zen Estillo will be instrumental in pushing the NRI sales segment further, added Rao.
