India's leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India reported a 28 per cent rise in vehicle sales for May 2010.
Total sales rose by 27.9 per cent to 102,175 units in May, 2010 as compared to 79,872 units a year ago.
This is the first time the car maker has seen sales over of a lakh in a month, it said. The previous highest figure in sales was recorded in the month of February 2010. At that time, Maruti had reported monthly sales of 96,650 units, it said.
Growth for the car maker in the month of May has come in the A2, A3 and C segments respectively. Sales growth in these segments was 16.6 per cent, 60.5 per cent and 70 per cent respectively.
On a year-on-year basis, the company said the increase in sales has been to the tune of 28 per cent.
Domestic sales of Maruti Suzuki, 54.2 per cent owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, increases 27.2 per cent to 90,041 units in May, 2010 as against 70,785 units in the previous year.
Exports of the company rose by 33.5 per cent to 12,134 units as against 9,087 units a year ago.
