 "Maruti Suzuki resumes production after maintenance closure")
The country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki, has resumed production at both its plants from today after a maintenance closure from June 6 to 11, the company said today.
The firm had to advance maintenance by three weeks owing to a fire at Subros on May 29 after which supply of car AC units had stopped.
The fire led to suspension of operations at Maruti’s plants in Gurgaon and Manesar for a couple of days, prompting the company to advance the biennial maintenance. The Gurgaon plant has a capacity of 700,000 vehicles a year while Manesar is bigger at 800,000 units.
The company also lost production of thousands of vehicles and this will reflect in its June sales number. In May, the company posted a 10.6% growth in domestic sales.
Subros, Maruti's biggest supplier of AC units has stepped up supplies to the car maker from other plants after the fire damage to its Manesar plant. Other suppliers have also ramped up supplies.
