The country's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), will temporarily stop production for a day across its manufacturing facilities at Gurgaon and Manesar, ahead of a six-day scheduled maintenance shutdown later this month.

The one-day shutdown of the two units tomorrow is to adjust production to market demand, a company spokesperson said.

The facilities will also remain closed on June 8 for a scheduled holiday.

"The scheduled maintenance shutdown (of the two plants) is from June 17 to June 22," informed the spokesperson.

The development comes on the back of  a continued slump in the domestic automobile market. MSIL registered a decline of 13 per cent in domestic sales at 77,821 units last month, as compared to 89,478 units sold in the same period last year. MSIL has been producing about 5,000 units a day from its Gurgaon and Manesar plants.

The company, at present, has a total installed annual capacity of about 1.5 million units, which will go up to 1.75 million units, when its third assembly line becomes operational in September this year.
