Mobile handset maker Maxx is eyeing revenues to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore from its handset and accessories business in FY12 on the back of a strong product and services portfolio in India.
"We have a expansive product portfolio and we back it up with strong after-sales service. This is to ensure that the customer has a good experience ... This fiscal, we should easily do Rs 800-850 crore in revenue from handsets," Maxx Chairman and Managing Director Ajjay Agarwal told PTI.
The remaining Rs 650 crore would accrue from the accessories business, he added.
Last year, the revenue from handset distribution and accessories business was Rs 1,452 crore with about Rs 750 crore coming from the handset segment.
The Indian handset market, of which homegrown firms like Micromax, Maxx, Spice, Karbonn and Lava comprise a significant portion, grew by 15% to touch Rs 33,171 crore in FY11 from Rs 28,897 crore a year back, according to a Cybermedia report.
Maxx has a portfolio of over 32 models at present. The company sells about 3.5 lakh units a month and expects the sales to increase 10-15% by the end of the fiscal.
"Demand has definitely grown [for our products] with an extensive portfolio and combined with our after-sales service, we are confident of meeting our targets," Agarwal said.
Maxx Group also plans to begin local manufacturing of the mobile handsets from April onwards.
It already has two manufacturing units in Haridwar. Spread over a total area of more than five lakh sq ft, the units have a total production capacity of more than 80 million units of batteries and 40 million units of chargers annually.
"The production from India will strengthen our supply chain. We have invested Rs 60 crore in the plant to manufacture handsets," he said.
