In a bid to tackle the issue of hazardous waste emerging out of industrial estates in Bharuch, Ahmedabad-based MCT Enviro Infrastructure Ltd. is setting up a waste insinuation plant in association with the Gujarat government.

Backed by 15 per cent capital investment subsidies by both the central and state government each, the plant is being set up at an investment of Rs 60 crore. "The Gujarat government had been working on waste disposal for industrial units in Bharuch. Hence, we submitted a proposal of developing a waste insinuation plant where hazardous waste will be burned at 1,200 degrees Celsius," said Vinod Mittal, director of MCT Enviro Infrastructure Ltd.

While the company has bought a land within the Bharuch GIDC and has received necessary approvals from the state government, MCT Enviro is awaiting a formal approval from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Once commissioned, the insinuation plant will be treating by way of burning over 50 tonnes of industrial waste per day.

Moreover, in association with the state government, the company is also constructing an effluent discharge pipeline from Ahmedabad to Gulf of Khambat to discharge waste disposed by textile processing units in the city. The said pipeline is being set up under a special purpose vehicle (SPV), formed for the project in partnership with the government of Gujarat.

To be constructed on BOOT basis at a cost of Rs 295 crore, the pipeline will be handed over to Ahmedabad Textile Processors Association (ATPA) after five years from date of commissioning. The project will witness utilisation of Glass Re-inforced Plastic (GRP) pipes of 1,000 mm diameter with a peak load capacity of 120 MLD.

For the project, MCT Enviro has also applied for subsidies under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) with the state government.
