Mercedes-Benz on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government Engineering College, Barton Hills, Thiruvananthapuram, to commence Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics (ADAM). The programme has already been started in government polytechnics in Pune and Aurangabad.
Devdutta Chandavarkar, director - after-sales, Mercedes-Benz India, said only 5 per cent of the Indian industrial workforce was skilled. Mechatronics, as a programme, would help in understanding what goes behind the technology and help students innovate using knowledge and experience. A skilled workforce of nearly 2.5 million is required for the automotive industry by 2016.
