The slump in demand for car and SUV segment notwithstanding German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz recorded a robust growth of 43% in sales for the period April-June clocking sales of 3,093 units period. The company had sold 2,163 units sold in the same period a year ago.
The company further stated that volumes for the January-June period closed at 6,659 unit, a jump of 41% over 4,717 units sold in the same period last year.
Besides the top-selling E Class new compact models like CLA and GLA have driven volumes in the reporting quarter. The company continues to sell the A Class and B Class luxury hatchbacks too. It recently started production (assembly) of the GLA from its Chakan facility near Pune with an aim to reduce its waiting period.
Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, "In the first six months of 2015, we sold almost as many cars as in the entire year of 2012. We created a strong growth momentum in Q1 taking clear sales lead, and are glad to sustain this stellar growth story in Q2 as well. We are on track with our long term objective of achieving a sustained profitable growth for our business in India. With some of the most awaited products in the pipeline for the remaining two quarters, including the much awaited AMG GT, Mercedes-Benz is all set for another year of strong growth."
