German retailer METRO Cash & Carry has appointed Arvind Mediratta, a former Walmart Executive as its India managing director, replacing Rajeev Bakshi.

Mediratta joined from Walmart US, where he was working as corporate vice-president (merchandising). He was part of the team that set up Walmart's India cash-and-carry business when he joined the retailer in 2007, before he was elevated as chief operating officer in the country. Later, he moved to the US, the company said in a statement.

Metro Cash and Carry has 19 wholesale distribution outlets in India, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai.
