The German retailing major has just completed the setting up of three such centres in South India. After commissioning two of the most modern fish auction centres at Nagapattinam and Pazahar in Tamil Nadu, Metro is now all set to commission its third centre in Mangalore next week. The company has spent Rs 57 lakh for this facility. |

"Our plan is to set up modern supply chain network which includes setting up of state-of-the-art fish auction centres and meat procurement centres across the country, which will help the local fishermen and sheep farmers immensely. We will also be sure of procuring hygienic fish and meat. We will set up the required infrastructure in all possible locations across the country", Metro spokesperson told Business Standard. |

It lays stress on better hygiene and food safety by use of air curtains at doors for prevention of flies and dust, installation of water jets to clean the fish on arrival. The centre will be handed over to the state department of fisheries on August 21, he said. |
