In a bid to enhance the skills of information officers in state, Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) has kick-started a week-long training programme for the information officers of the government of Gujarat.
The Centre for Social & Development Communications (CSDC) at MICA has initiated communication training for Joint Directors, Deputy and Assistant Directors of Information from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bharuch, Nadiad, Anand and Mehsana districts of Gujarat.
To be held between April 12 and 17, the participants will be taken through a journey of communication—right from the basics to the challenges. "There will be a whale of topics covered as part of the communication training for the information officers. From the strengths and limitations of communication channels to sources of information and knowledge exchange, the training will provide a great deal of exposure to the state government officials. The course will ensure that the officers are well-versed with new media," a MICA spokesperson told Business Standard.
Parts of the curriculum will include elements of print medium — newspapers, readership and people's preferences, TV- philosophy of the medium, role of radio, creative use of space, designing poster/leaflet, concept of design in exhibition, signage and design, disaster/crisis communication and media, elements of publications, new media and RTI/challenges of communications.
The opening session on Monday was addressed by Ashok Ranchhod, director, MICA and Arbind Sinha, dean – academics & chairperson, CSDC. The training programme is being attended by 19 information officers of Gujarat.
MICA's Centre of Excellence CSDC is engaged in activities including management development programmes, international exchanges, online education, knowledge exchange and publications, CSR projects, development communications, consultancy and research.
