Japanese automaker Nissan Motor today reported over 20-fold increase in its sales for March on the back of spurt in sales of its hatchback 'Micra'.
The company sold 2,101 units of cars in March this year against 89 units in the same month last year, the company said in a release here today.
The majority of the sales were contributed by hatchback Micra leading the sales with 2,060 units in March this year as against 2,030 units in last month.
"This is the highest sales attained by Micra in a single month, ever since its sales began in July 2010," it said.
However, Nissan Motor witnessed a sharp dip in sales of luxury sedan Teana and sports utility vehicle X-Trail. In March 2011, the company has sold 11 units of Teana against 21 units in March 2010.
It sold 29 units of X-Trail in March 2011 as against 68 units in March 2010. Both X-Trail and Teana were imported to India as completely-built units.

The company had sold 10 units of sports car Nissan 370Z since its entry in India in January 2010. In March 2011, it sold one unit of Nissan 370Z.
Nissan Motor along with France automajor Renault have made investments of Rs 4,500 crore at their manufacturing facility in Oragadam near Chennai spread over a period of seven years. The manufacturing facility as a capacity of 2 lakh units which can be increased to 4 lakh units.
