Project shiksha rolls into west bengal

Microsoft Corporation India today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of West Bengal, for the roll-out of Microsoft's Partners-in-Learning programme in the state.
 
The programme encompasses Microsoft's flagship India education initiative 'Project Shiksha' as well as two other initiatives, Fresh Start and School Agreement.
 
In the five-year MoU period, Microsoft aims to reach out to over one million students and over 12,000 teachers in government and government-aided schools.
 
The MoU entails setting up and running of a Microsoft IT academy centre in kolkata for delivering comprehensive teacher training.
 
Further, it entails the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive teacher training programme, creation of a localised IT curriculum for students, rolling out of teacher student scholarship programmes and setting up of a teachers portal.
 
Elaborating on Microsoft's vision for IT in education, Rajiv Kaul, managing director Microsoft Corporation India said, "At Microsoft, we have a long term vision for the cause of IT education""wherein we are committed to collaborate with the Indian government and the state education departments to integrate IT in the current education process and ensure that the necessary level of digital literacy is acquired by today's students and teachers."
