| In an attempt to cut costs, loss-making Japanese automobile company Mitsubishi Motors Corp today announced that it would expand its ties with the CK Birla-controlled Hindustan Motors Ltd (HM), which may also involve outsourcing of components. |
| Mitsubishi is also planning to roll out new models in India through HM after January 2006. It is also learnt that HM may import Mitsubishi's mini-van Grandis for Indian roads. |
| A HM spokesperson said the details of the expanded links with Mitsubishi would be available in a day or two. |
| It is learnt that Mitsubishi may eye HM as a possible international purchase office for sourcing components from India. |
| HM commenced the rollout of Mitsubishi vehicles in 1997 with the production of the sedan Lancer in the company's Chennai plant. |
| Under the tie-up between the two companies, HM also sells Mitsubishi's sports utility vehicle Pajero in India. HM is currently supplying engines to both the Ford and General Motors operations in India. |
