Mitsubishi, HM to enlarge ties

Mitsubishi plans to launch new models in India through HM & HM may import former's mini-van.
 
In an attempt to cut costs, loss-making Japanese automobile company Mitsubishi Motors Corp today announced that it would expand its ties with the CK Birla-controlled Hindustan Motors Ltd (HM), which may also involve outsourcing of components.
 
Mitsubishi is also planning to roll out new models in India through HM after January 2006. It is also learnt that HM may import Mitsubishi's mini-van Grandis for Indian roads.
 
A HM spokesperson said the details of the expanded links with Mitsubishi would be available in a day or two.
 
It is learnt that Mitsubishi may eye HM as a possible international purchase office for sourcing components from India.
 
HM commenced the rollout of Mitsubishi vehicles in 1997 with the production of the sedan Lancer in the company's Chennai plant.
 
Under the tie-up between the two companies, HM also sells Mitsubishi's sports utility vehicle Pajero in India. HM is currently supplying engines to both the Ford and General Motors operations in India.
