On the day when the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) index, the Sensex, swung over 1,300 points, a record 50% of the traded stocks hit the lower limit of the circuit filters.Of the 2,329 stocks traded today, as many as 1,329 stocks hit the lower limit of the circuit filter. Of the total stocks that hit the lower limit of the circuit during intra-day trades, 362 stocks were from the trade-to-trade segment (T group) where delivery of stocks is mandatory. As many as 226 stocks were from B2 group, 215 from B1 group, 160 from S group, 110 stocks from TS group and 58 stocks each from the Z and the A groups.At the end of the day, the stocks traded under T and TS group were hit the worst with 67% (102 stocks) out of 152 stocks from the TS group frozen at the lower limit of the circuit filter while 54% (326 stocks) of the 601 stocks from T group ended the day at the maximum down limit of the circuit filter.From the other groups, 44% (63 stocks) from Z group, 28% (142 stocks) from B2 and 21% (76 stocks) from B2 group were frozen at the down limit of the circuit breaker. Only Adani Exports and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) from the front-line A group stocks closed at the 5% lower limit.Among the front-line A group stocks, ACC, Cipla, Corporation Bank, Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, MTNL, NTPC, Reliance Capital, Tata Motors, Tata Power and TVS Motor hit the lower limit of the circuit breakers.Hindustan Zinc (20 per cent), Escorts (16 per cent), Punj Lloyd (16 per cent) and Century Textiles (15 per cent) declined more than 15% as against their previous close.The stocks of 99 non-banking finance companies, 96 IT companies, 62 pharmaceuticals, 51 engineering, 49 construction, 41 textile cotton, 24 media and 23 cement sector stocks hit the lower-limit of circuit-breakers during the intra-day trades on BSE.
