Prime Minister Narendra Modi would dedicate the 15 million tonne oil refinery built by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) at Paradeep to the nation on February 6.

"The Prime minister would be a on a two-day visit to Odisha on February 6-7. On February 6, he will dedicate IOCL's Paradeep refinery to the nation on February 6", minister for petroleum & natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan said here.

Pradhan called on chief minister Naveen Patnaik, inviting him for the IOCL event.

Built at cost of Rs 34,555 crore, the Paradeep refinery is designed to process broad basket of crude including cheaper high sulphur heavy crude.

Crude processing started in the mother unit (atmospheric & vacuum distillation (AVU) unit) of the refinery in April 2015. Subsequently, Delayed Coker Unit (DCU), Hydrogen Generation Unit (HGU), Diesel Hydro-treater Unit (DHDT), Naphtha Hydro-treater Unit (NHT) and LPG & Kerosene Treater units were commissioned in a phased manner.

IOCL's Paradeep refinery is tipped to be the most modern refinery in the country with a nil-residue production, and the products would meet stringent specifications. IndianOil has taken over 3344 acres of land for the project.

The refinery would be equipped with first of its kind technological features like flue gas de-sulphurisation facilities and vapour recovery system from jetty loading. These features are expected to ensure environment friendly operations of the refinery with minimal impact on the environment

The INDMAX unit with a capacity of 4.17 million tonne per annum is based on the indigenous technology developed by IOCL. This unit marks a major step towards indigenous technology development in the country.
