Hailing historical linkages between the Tata’s and their Parsi heritage and the state of Gujarat, state chief minister Narendra Modi indicated that the embattled Nano factory in Singur in West Bengal was welcome in Gujarat.

“Centuries ago, when Parsis landed off the coast of Gujarat, the then King sent them a cup brimful with milk, indicating that there was no way he could accommodate more people. The parsis then mixed sugar in the milk indicating that they would mingle similarly with the local population. The parsi community shares our mother tongue Gujarati and I am ready with sugar even today,” he said, thus indicating that Ratan Tata and the Nano were also welcome in Gujarat.

Modi also pointed out that Gujarat was among the first states to have a spelt out policy on Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and land acquisition and compensation issues. “We have not had a single instance of protest against industry since our policies have been clear from the beginning,” he said.
