Robust growth prospects and huge employment opportunities are set to characterize the logistics and operation sector in the next decades, said speakers at the National Management Seminar on Operation and Logistics (OperLogix’12) organized by Asian School of Business Management (ASBM), a city based B-school.

Speaking on the occasion Subrat Tripathy, chief commercial manager, East Coast Railways, dwelt on the rapid modernization of Indian railways and its future growth driven by the cost containment and efficient management of logistics operation. He exhorted the students to take advantage of the management education in logistics and supply chain being provided by the advanced B-schools.

Delivering the key note address, R Ranga Rajan, vice president (human resource), Sical Logistics Ltd, said, with annual logistics cost of 6.75 billion dollars, Indian logistics and supply chain industry occupies 47th rank among 155 countries as revealed by recently released World Bank Survey. With a projected annual growth rate of 15-20% per year, the industry already provides employment to 45 million people in India.

Looking at the huge employment opportunity, career aspirant and management students across the country can enhance their potential by choosing logistics and supply chain management as a career of first choice, he added. Presiding over the meeting, retired bureaucrat, Vivek Pattanayak emphasized on the growing significance of logistics operation which has evolved from the military strategies of great emperors like Alexander.
