Mother Dairy Ice Cream Ltd (MDIL), which has a 63 per cent share of the organised ice-cream market in Delhi and northern capital region (NCR), has expanded to Punjab and Uttar Pradesh from April this year.

"Apart from maintaining its leadership position in Delhi, Mother Dairy plans to grow in the ice-cream segment through the introduction of new products and by expanding to new markets such as Punjab and Uttar Pradesh," said Paul Thachil, chief executive officer, Mother Dairy Ice Creams.

"Our turnover last year has shown a healthy growth over the previous year and by expanding our markets we intend to grow by 15 per cent in the current financial year," said Thachil.

At present Mother Dairy sources its ice-creams from its manufacturing unit at Patparganj in New Delhi. Its ice-creams are sold in approximately 6,000 outlets in Delhi and NCR, while the company is planning to add various outlets in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, taking the total number of outlets to around 10,000 in the next few years.

On the company's summer plans, Thachil said, "We plan to focus on both the impulse and take-home segments this summer. We have just launched our new campaign for the Chillz brand. Our existing range includes a variety of impulse, take-home and institutional products. The Chillz targets the youth and offers a range of delicious bars and cones."

"We also plan to launch several products this season. Some of them like a bubble-gum flavoured lolly will be targeted at kids, while a banana-strawberry variant will be a new addition to our existing premium range of Fruit Classics. Another introduction this season will be a rum-n-raisin sundae to add to our premium range of sundaes called Sundae Magic," said Thachil.

"Mother Dairy Ice Creams has been providing the consumers of Delhi a large variety of wholesome dairy products for the last 30 years," Thachil said.

Currently Mother Dairy is not into exports but the feasibility of exports cannot be ruled out in the coming years as the company is planning and exploring prospective market overseas.
