Mahindra Shubhlabh Services Ltd (MSSL), a Mahindra Group company, has reported a fall of 68.57 per cent in export of grapes during the FY 2010-11(November-April grape season) as compared to that of last year. The export of grapes has fallen due to unseasonal rains that had hit the vineyards in Nashik district during November 2010, causing production losses of around 30 to 70 per cent in vineyards of Nashik district.
Mahindra Shubhlabh has emerged as one of the major exporters of fresh fruits in the country in the past few years. It sells to several retail chains in UK, Europe and Russia. Mahindra Shubhlabh was set up by the Mahindra Group with an intention of leveraging the trusted Mahindra engineering prowess to maximize the profitability of the Indian farmers.
Mahindra Shubhlabh exported 1,485 metric tonnes (MT) of grapes (110 containers) to UK, Europe and other countries registering a fall of 68.57 per cent in FY 2010-11, against 4,725 MT (350 containers) in FY 2009-10, sources told Business Standard. The company sourced 608 MT of grapes (45 containers) from Nashik district and 877 MT of grapes (65 containers) from Sangli and Latur districts, through contract farming.
