Flipkart-owned online fashion retailer Myntra is expecting to sell three million products — a five-time increase in sales as compared to a normal day — during the parent firm’s upcoming BigBillionDays (BBD) festive sale.

The five-day sale, which kicks off on September 20, will see participation from Myntra and its subsidiary Jabong. The contribution of both brands will be crucial for Flipkart to try and stay ahead of rival Amazon, as online fashion has become a big driver of sales.

“We are participating in Flipkart’s BigBillionDays sale for third year in a row and are expecting a five times growth in sales. We are offering our customers the season’s latest collection at attractive prices, making it an event that cannot be given a miss. We are expecting to sell three million products over the five-day sale,” said Naresh Krishnaswamy, chief revenue officer at Myntra.

Flipkart, which introduced the concept of an annual festive sale in India four years ago, expects to see a three-time increase in sales compared to last year. The sale has helped Flipkart fend off an attack from Amazon last year. But, the threat continues to loom.

Amazon has beefed up its logistics team and says it has hired 22,000 additional staff to help it deal with the excess demand that it will see during this year’s festive sale.
