Mysore city is set to grow bigger if a proposal of the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is accepted.
The MUDA has proposed the creation of three satellite towns at three locations around the city within the jurisdiction of Mysore taluk.
The areas identified for the proposed satellite towns comprise Daripura in Jayapura Hobli, Badagalapura, Yelwal Hobli, Nagawala, Nanjapura, Vajamangala, Bommenahalli, Varuna Hobli among other other areas.
The MUDA meeting held during the weekend discussed at length the proposal for the formation of satellite towns to meet the requirements of the ever-expanding city. After suggestions by the MUDA members, the meeting decided to forward the proposal to the government for its approval
It decided to prepare an action plan in this regard, after finalising the areas required for the project. The members were of the opinion that the project should be initiated as early as possible.
The meeting decided to send another proposal to the government to extend the local planning area of Mysore city, according to MUDA commissioner P C Jayanna.

The meeting decided to create basic facilities in the new extensions developed by MUDA and in villages coming under its purview like Thandavapura, Basavanapura, Chikkayyanachatra and Gejjagalli on a priority basis. Another decision was to initiate action for the acquisition of more land for creating new extensions and allotment of sites to the pending applicants.
The MUDA has a waiting list of over 148,000 names for sites and has already propo-sed to outsource an outside agency for verification of the long list of aspirants before distributing 3,000 sites in the Rabindranath Tagore Nagar and another 3,000 sites in Lalithadripura extension by March next.
In this background, it decided to provide power supply from an outer source to Rabindranath Tagore Nagar at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore after obtaining approval from the government.
Another important decision taken was to construct an overhead bridge at the Mysore-Bangalore train track near K R Mills and an overbridge at Aganahalli to facilitate the easy movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Construction of pedestrian overbridges on modern lines has become a vital need on the highway in view of the villages and towns enroute in view of the accidents.
Another approval the meeting gave was for the construction of two-tier gallery with a seating capacity of 40,000 to 50,000 in the Bannimantap grounds, the venue of the annual Dasara torchlight parade.
The present seating galleries have no shelters and the spectators are exposed to rains generally occurring during the season.
