NAFED invites bids for import of yellow peas

National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) has invited bids for import of two lakh tonne of Canadian yellow peas.     

The bids would close on September 1 and the decision on the tender would be taken by September 12, the cooperative firm said on its website.     

NAFED said it would source two lakh tonne of yellow peas from Canada grown during 2008 season.     

According to tender notice, the shipment of 50,000 tonne each should be discharged at ports of eastern and western coast from September onwards by December 15 latest.     

India imports pulses as output is lower than demand. Pulses production is estimated at 15.19 million tons in 2007-08 crop year, while the domestic demand has been put at around 17-18 million tonne.
