Public sector undertaking Nalco’s former chief, Abhay Kumar Srivastava and his accomplice, Bhushan Lal Bajaj, arrested for their alleged involvement in a graft case, were sent to Tihar jail on Tuesday by a Delhi court.

Special judge O P Saini sent the duo to the jail after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel told him their interrogation was over. They were sent to jail till March 23, as the defence counsel did not oppose CBI’s plea.

CBI’s prosecutor Akhilesh told the court the probe in the case had not been completed and the accused may be sent to judicial custody for further investigation. “At this stage, further judicial custody of 14 days is required for both the accused as investigation is not yet complete,” the probe agency told the court.

The two were arrested on February 25 after CBI recovered about 10 kg of gold bricks and jewellery valued at Rs 2.13 crore as also Rs 30 lakh in cash from their possession. Srivastava was allegedly given a bribe by the private firm Bhatia group of industries to secure some lucrative contract from Nalco.
