Nalco net slumps 28% in Apr-June

PAT dropped to Rs 160 crore vs Rs 223 cr in the corresponding period last year

Low international prices of aluminium metal pulled down National Aluminium Company's (Nalco) net profit for the quarter ended June 2013 by 28.25 per cent. The navratna PSU's profit after tax dropped to Rs  160 crore against Rs 223 crore in the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

During the period, Nalco's bauxite production was up 28 per cent at 1.46 million tonne compared to 1.14 million tonne in the year-ago period. Alumina production was almost flat at 482,000 tonne as against 476,000 tonne in the comparable period of 2012-13. Aluminium production went down 17.4 per cent in the period from 103,000 tonne to 85,000 tonne.

Total alumina sale improved marginally from 253,000 tonne to 283,000 tonne in the period under review.  

Power generation by Nalco reduced 17.78 per cent to 1327 million units from 1614 million units.
