Nalco pays Rs 112 cr final dividend to govt

State-run National Aluminium Company (Nalco) today paid a final dividend of Rs 112.30 crore to the government for the financial year 2010-11.

With this, the company has paid a total dividend of Rs 257.72 crore for the last fiscal to the government.

"Nalco, the Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, has paid a total dividend amount of Rs 257.72 crore for the financial year 2010-11, which includes the final dividend of Rs 128.86 crore at Rs 0.50 per equity share," an official release said.

The cheque for final dividend amounting to Rs 112.30 crore on the 87.15% shares held by the government was handed over to Mines Minister Dinsha J Patel by Nalco CMD BL Bagra, the release added.

The balance amount of Rs 16.56 crore is payable to other shareholders of the company like banks, financial institutions and individual shareholders.

The total dividend of Rs 257.72 crore for the year "is 60% higher than total sum of Rs 161.08 crore paid for the previous fiscal", the release said.

Since inception, Nalco has paid Rs 3,940 crore as dividend, including Rs 3,435 crore as share of government of India.

During 2010-11, Nalco earned a profit after tax of Rs 1,069 crore, as compared to Rs 814 crore in the previous year, registering a jump of 31%.
