The former ambassador to the US, Naresh Chandra, will be heading a high-level national committee on corporate governance and accounting practices to be set up by the government.
The committee will advise the government on framing appropriate policies and amend the existing norms in these areas. It will also suggest changes in the legislative and regulatory framework for auditing and accounting practices in India.
The terms of reference of the committee, its composition and the formal appointment of Chandra will be cleared in a few days. The committee may have five to six members.

The committee will be set up under the administrative control of the finance and company affairs ministry. Chandra will, therefore, report his findings to finance and company affairs minister, Jaswant Singh.
Chandra, a former cabinet secretary and a retired IAS officer belonging to the Rajasthan cadre, is well-known to Singh.
