Nasscom is planning to open its Chennai office in the next six to eight weeks. It will make a formal announcement shortly about the date of opening and is in the final stages of appointing a person to head the Chennai chapter. |
"This office will help us accelerate our activity in the state. We had pushed the process for a long time. Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) is helping us find a suitable office space," Nasscom president Kiran Karnik said. |

The Tamil Nadu government is in the process on introducing IT education in 2,000 government schools shortly. "We have already started partnerships with Sutherland Technologies, Alsec Technologies and GE and some state universities wherein employees from these companies go and teach in these universities. This way the IT industry will be able to mould students according to their requirements and the students understand industry needs," said Vivek Harinarain, IT secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu. |

Elcot is organising a seminar called 'Training the trainer' between September 6-11 wherein 150 professors from different universities will be trained in language skills by IT professionals from BPO firms that include Office Tiger, Scope International and Alsec Technologies. |

The state which has added 1.4 million sq ft of office space in the last four months expects the an additional demand of 2.5 million sq ft by the end of 2004. |
