Navayuga Spatial Technologies Private Limited is working on a pilot project on geographic information systems (GIS) for the Ras Al-Khaimah government in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The company will also be setting up a sales and support office in Ras Al-Khaimah in the next few months.

Navayuga Spatial Technologies operates from Hyderabad and Bangalore and is part of the $250 million Navayuga Group. Navayuga Engineering Company Limited is the flagship company of the conglomerate.

The other companies in the group's fold include Navayuga Exports Limited and Navayuga Infotech Pvt Ltd.

"We have initiated the GIS project to build a spatial database and an Indian company - Navayuga - is working with us on it. The project covers global positioning system, remote sensing, photogrammetry and the likes," Muhammad Bul-Hamaam, chairman of the GIS committee in Ras Al-Khaimah, told mediapersons.

A delegation of high-level officials from Ras Al-Khaimah is in India from August 11-16, 2006, to seek information and collaboration from Indian companies on IT. The team is also looking at attracting Indian companies to set up shop in Ras Al-Khaimah.

According to Hashem Ar-Refaei, adviser to the Ras Al-Khaimah government on information technology, the actual project size could be close to $3 million and Navayuga will be competing with other companies for the project.

"However, the chances of Navayuga bagging the project are high, considering that they are already working on the pilot project," he added.

The delegation has also visited the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre and is evaluating opportunities of collaboration. Meanwhile, the Ras Al-Khaimah government is also looking at increasing air connectivity with India.
