Navteq eyes Gujarat for navigation biz

Leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, Navteq India is eyeing the Gujarat for its navigation business. The provider of location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, is looking at providing map and navigation facilities through clients and OEMs.

"We already have tie-ups with OEMs and clients like Nokia and Tata Motors through which we are foraying into the Gujarat. We expect our navigation business to grow at a healthy rate in Gujarat in the near future. We have several surveyors continually mapping the whole of Gujarat to enhance our applications with regards to the state," said Prashant Dogra, head - marketing, South Asia, Navteq.

Recently, Gujarat saw the launches of new Nokia N8 mobile handset and Tata Motors' utility vehicle Tata Aria that have in-built mapping applications of Navteq.

Navteq has also announced that Garmin, a global satellite navigation device manufacturer will utilise the Navteq map of India in its entire, new range of portable navigation devices.

Apart from digital map, Navteq is providing advanced content for the entire new range of Garmin devices to help driver orientation allowing for a more stress-free navigation experience. One of the latest devices, Nuvi 1360 is incorporated with eco-route, a feature that allows drivers to track fuel usage and more, through eco-route's fuel report and mileage report. In turn, drivers can focus on their fuel conservation and find fuel-saving tips along the way.

"Navteq and Garmin have had a strong relationship globally, based on the common goal of bringing the best navigation experience to consumers. With this particular collaboration, we wanted to deliver content that would help guide drivers through the unique demands of India driving. Naturally, we are looking to drive the adoption of digital navigation in India and we believe drivers who use these Garmin devices will quickly appreciate the benefits," said Rajat Tandon, director, sales - India, Navteq, regarding the company's tie-up with Garmin.

The Navteq map of India includes coverage in 485 cities, more than 822,000 kms in roads and highways and covers a population of approximately over 240 million. In addition to road network coverage, the map of India also contains a full set of features including 2.3 million points of interest such as restaurants, hotels, places of worship, and gas stations.
