The National Building Construction Corporation Ltd, a central government enterprise engaged in construction engineering and consultancy services, has bagged a Rs 11.77 crore order for waste disposal management in Madhya Pradesh. |
The company, according to a state government spokesperson, will manage civic solid waste in Gwalior and set up a bio-fertiliser plant of 100 tonnes and a vermicompost plant of 20 tonnes. |
"The company has got the contract and has been given Rs 9.60 crore from the central government fund," said the spokesperson. |
To avoid accidents due to bird-aeroplane collision, the Central sector scheme of solid waste management and drainage is being implemented in 10 towns with airfields, namely Gwalior; Ambala; Hindon and Bareilly (UP); Jodhpur, Tezpur (Assam); Dundigal (AP); Sirsa (Haryana); Adampur (Punjab); and Pune. |
The Gwalior project is likely to be completed by 2007. Gwalior, according to the Gwalior Municipal Corporation data, produces 266 tonnes of solid waste (including 4 tonnes of bio medical waste) per day. |
"Plans are afoot to float tenders for setting up a bio-medical facility in the town," said the spokesperson. |
A 25-hectare land has been identified for setting up a waste disposal site. This will be the second waste management site. The first is being developed near Indore by Ramki International, a Hyderabad-based company, to manage hazardous waste. |
At present corporate houses transport the solid waste of their plants to two privately managed hazardous waste disposal sites. |
The Gwalior Municipal Corporation has been asked to launch a public campaign for solid waste management so that the waste could be collected at identified points of the city. |
"Littering in public places has already been banned in Gwalior and solid waste is collected through various modes," the spokesperson said. |
