The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) chairman Amrita Patel has become the first Indian to be elected to the Board of International Dairy Federation (IDF).
An announcement to this effect was made at the recently concluded 98th General Assembly of IDF in Auckland, New Zealand, an official release said on Monday.
Patel said that her joining the Board would provide a balance as she would be bringing issues relevant not only to dairying in India, but other developing nations also.
Patel, who is presently also a member of the IDF Standing Committee on Dairy Policy and Economics, has been associated with the IDF since the early 70s. She was president of the Indian National Committee of the IDF from 1999 to 2006 and has been representing the country as its delegate to the IDF Council and General Assembly.
The IDF was established in 1903 and presently has a membership of 57 nations.
