Nestle SA, the world's largest food company, was ordered to stop selling Chinese-made Neslac infant formula and Klim powdered milk in Taiwan after authorities found higher-than-permitted levels of toxic chemical melamine.

While no concern exists about the Nestle products' safety, they breach government guidelines on melamine, Taiwan's Department of Health said today on its website today. Nestle is urging that the ban be rescinded, according to an e-mailed statement from the Vevey, Switzerland-based company.
