The Net worth of Marto, a Spanish company is understood to be close to Rs 150 crore, said Sudhir Windlass, president of Windlass Steelcrafts today.
“I can only say that the net worth of Marto should be close to Rs 150 crore,” said Windlass from Spain where he acquired the company following a three-month acquisition process.
With this, the Windlass group — with a net worth of Rs 200 crore has now become a Rs 350-crore company, he said. The payment for acquiring Marto was made in cash by Atlanta Cutlery Corporation Inc, a US-based arm of Windlass group. Marto, a leading European manufacturer of decorative historical swords was bought by Windlass for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will also include Marto’s two sister companies – Bermejo, which manufactures military dress swords for many international governments and Midas, a high jewellery manufacturer catering to the world’s gift market.
Founded in 1961 in Toledo, Spain, the acquisition of Marto will give Windlass a new tag of a leader in the historical and military swords-making industry in the world. “We want to stabilise the business of Marto before we take other steps,” said Windlass.
Established in 1943, the Group has come a long way to diversify into wide-ranging sectors like historical edged weapons and clothings, pharmaceuticals, real estate and hotel businesses. Through some key partnerships, Windlass started exporting to the US and western European nations in 1979 and since has outfitted many armies of the world, provided props to the biggest Hollywood productions like Gladiator, The Lord of The Rings, Troy and The Mummy Returns and manufactured some amazing licensed replicas for many top collectible companies.
