A new annealing and pickling (AP) line has been commissioned at the Salem Steel Plant at a cost of Rs 266.80 crore to ramp up the output of specialised steel products from the unit to 1.46 lakh tonnes per year.
SAIL Director (Finance) Soiles Bhattacharya inaugurated the new line, which was supplied by Austria-based Andritz AG, a statement issued here by the Salem Steel Plant said.
The newly inaugurated line has a designed capacity of 5 lakh tonnes per annum. Following operationalisation of the AP line, the cold-rolled stainless steel production capacity of the plant would go up from 72,000 tonnes at present to 1.46 lakh tonnes per annum, it said.
One of the most important features of the line is the pollution control equipment incorporated in its design to meet stringent emission norms as per international standards, it said.
Bhattacharya later met Salem Steel Plant Executive Director Pankaj Gautam and reviewed the plant's performance, the statement added.
