Cinema Express, the Tamil film magazine published by the New Indian Express Group, has announced its plans to stop publication of the fortnightly. The publication, of Express Publication (Madurai) Ltd, has announced that it is discontinuing the publication after 36 years of journey, with the February 16 issue, which has it the stores now.
The publication, which came out with the first issue on January 10, 1980, as a fortnightly has survived so far though its competitor Tamil film publications including Pesumpadam, Bommai, Chitralaya and others have closed down much earlier, said an editorial in the latest issue of the magazine.
However, the editorial did not reveal the reason for the decision, stating that "Without able to tell you the reason, we are bidding adieu with heavy heart".
The New Indian Express Group has presence in various south Indian languages, including daily newspapers. Apart from the newspapers The New Indian Express and Dinamani (Tamil daily) and Kannada Prabha (Kannada daily), it also established Cinema Express, Samakalika Malayalam, magazines in Tamil and Malayalam respectively.
